5 Tips for Choosing the Best Lightweight Foundation in Time for Summer
Choosing the best lightweight foundation for you is certainly no mean feat.
As the weather warms up, many of us will want to opt for a lightweight foundation for the Summer months to avoid our makeup feeling like it’s melting off. We’ve come up with a few tips to help you in your epic search to finding the best lightweight foundation in time for Summer.
Tip #1: Choose your finish
By ‘finish’, we mean whether you prefer a matte, dewy or natural look to your skin. If your skin does tend to be on the oily side, you may want to choose a more matte finish, to avoid your skin looking too greasy, especially as your skin might get a natural ‘glow’ from warmer weather anyway. If you suffer with dry or dehydrated skin, you may want to choose a finish that looks a little more dewy, and provides you with a little added hydration to keep your skin healthy.
For a matte finish, we recommend the Ere Perez Quinoa Water Foundation.
For a dewy finish, we recommend the Couleur Caramel BB Cream.
Tip #2: Consider your ‘Summer’ shade
Remember to think about whether you tan in the Summer or not, and whether opting for a shade or 2 darker than your natural skin tone is best for you. If you tend to tan easily and go several shades darker, I would recommend buying 2 shades darker and making sure you blend the colour all the way down your neck when you apply it. Our neck’s don’t tend to tan so easily as they are shadowed by our face, so to ensure you are the same tanned shade all over from face to chest, blend the colour all the way down to the collarbone. If you have a fair or light skin tone and don’t tend to tan enough to justify a darker shade. Just apply bronzer to the high points of the face where the sun naturally hits - the forehead, temples, cheeks and nose. You can choose a matte bronzer for a natural sun kissed look, or a bronzer with a subtle shimmer to give yourself that radiant glow.
For a matte bronze look, we recommend Gressa Minimalist Contouring Serum Bronzer
For a shimmering bronze look, we recommend Kjaer Weis Cream Bronzer in Dazzling.
Tip #3: How much coverage do you like to wear?
A lightweight foundation can also provide a decent amount of coverage if that is your preference. Choose a lightweight foundation that describes itself as being ‘buildable’, and you’ll be able to layer the coverage to suit your preference. Alternatively, you can opt for a very sheer coverage that is more like a moisturiser with a hint of colour. A sheer coverage foundation often has added skincare benefits to provide your skin with extra nourishment and hydration throughout the day.
For a lightweight foundation with a buildable coverage, we recommend the Sappho Essential Foundation.
For a very sheer, tinted moisturiser coverage, we recommend the Couleur Caramel Natur’fluid Foundation.
Tip #4: Do you need added SPF?
Finding a lightweight foundation with added SPF can be a big bonus! And a 2-in-1 product is certainly appealing for keeping your hold luggage weight limit to a minimum when you’re off on holiday this Summer. Layering an spf over your foundation, or moisturiser can also end up feeling heavy and sticky, and even start to look cakey on the skin. For a simple daytime routine to even out your skin tone, blend a lightweight foundation with an SPF over your skin to protect it from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays.
For lower sun protection, we love the ZAO Makeup BB Cream SPF15
For medium sun protection, we love the Evolve Beauty Climate Veil SPF20
